Montessori-inspired and learning toys, picked by age and skill

Mexten is a curated toy shop for parents who want fewer, better toys. Instead of thousands of random products, we offer a focused range of hands-on toys that support how children actually learn: stacking and sorting, counting and early math, puzzles and logic, pretend play, science and movement. Each product page shows the recommended age, the skills the toy builds, its real size, safety notes and simple ideas for how to play together.

How do I choose the right toy for my child's age?

Start with the age range, then look at the skill your child is working on right now. Age labels are about safety as well as development, so follow them even if your child seems ready for an older toy.

What is a Montessori-inspired toy?

A Montessori-inspired toy is simple, hands-on and focused on one clear activity, such as stacking rings in order or sorting objects by color. These toys usually have a built-in way for children to notice and fix their own mistakes, use calm colors and natural materials where possible, and let the child lead the play. We say "Montessori-inspired" because the toys follow these principles; they are not official Montessori classroom materials.

Which toys help with early math and reading skills?

Hands-on materials make numbers and words concrete before children learn them on paper. Counting sets, counting sticks and hundred boards build number sense; multiplication boards make times tables visual; and talking flash cards grow vocabulary. Browse Math & Early Learning for the full range.

What are the best toys for fine motor skills?

Toys that make children pinch, grip, thread and place small objects strengthen the hand muscles used later for writing. Good examples are stackers, peg boards, tweezers and sorting bowls, magnetic pen mazes and bead kits. Look for the "Fine motor" tag on each product.

Are your toys safe?

Every product page lists the recommended age, materials and safety notes. Toys for children under 3 are chosen without small parts, and toys that contain small parts, small balls or marbles show the US choking hazard warning. We avoid toys with loose high-powered magnets and button batteries. Read more on our Toy Safety page.

How big are the toys?

Product photos are often taken close up, so we show the size on every product page, right under the description, in centimeters and inches. Some toys are compact and hand-sized; when that's the case, we say so clearly.

How long does shipping take, and is it free?

Orders are processed in 3–5 business days and arrive in 15–20 business days in the US, Canada, Australia and Europe. US shipping is free on orders over $49; otherwise it's a $4.99 flat rate. Every order is tracked. See our Shipping Policy for details.

Can I return a toy?

Yes. You can request a return within 30 days of delivery. If a toy arrives damaged, defective or wrong, send us a photo and we'll replace it or refund you, usually without needing the item back. See Returns & Refunds.
